3 day tour: Fez > Sahara > Marrakech

Day 1: Fes > Ifrane > Cedar Forest > Ziz Valley > Merzouga > Sahara camel trek > Desert camp (1 night)

We’ll pick you up at you Riad in Fez at 08:00 h. We head South to cross the Middle Atlas mountains to reach Ifran, Morocco’s little Switzerland. Once the home of the Atlas lions, now the city symbol. In the city centre you find a lion statue to commemorate the Alas lion. A nice place to make some photo’s.

We continue our tour through the famous cedar forest. We’ll visit the Great Cedar Gouraud, the largest ancient cedar in the region. There is a good chance you can see the Barbary Macaque’s, they inhabit the forest. Then we drive to Midelt for lunch. After lunch we continue and pass the Ziz Vally, more than 20 km’s of millions of palm trees. One of the largest palm valleys in the world.

At the end of the drive in Merzouga, you switch from car to dromedary. With the caravan you enter the heart of the Erg Chebbi dunes and enjoy an unforgettable sunset.

We spend the night at the desert camp where we stay in traditional desert nomad Haim’s, “homes made with dromedary wool”. And if you want you can sleep under the stars. We end the day with a cup of traditional tea (Moroccan or Berber Whisky) and a delicious Berber tajine under the spectacular sky of stars. After dinner, you can listen to local Berber nomads musicians play traditional music with drums.

Day 2: Desert Merzouga > Rissani Market > Todra Gorges > Dades Gorges

”Date with the Dawn”! A recommended Sahara custom. Wake up early, walk up to the highest dune around and enjoy the magnificent sunrise. After a relaxing start we go back to Merzouga by dromedary. After a delicious breakfast we leave the desert and drive to Rissani. You can visit the Rissani market on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday.

From Rissani we follow the road to Erfoud where you can visit the fossilized marble factory (optional). On our way we pass the Touroug and Tinjdad palmeries. Our next stop is Todra Gorges, with its impressive gorge walls and ydilic river running through. A unique place and a paradise for climbers. We recommend to have lunch here after a half hour hike.

After lunch we head to the Dades Valley, also known as the Valley of the Figs. We continue to Boumalne Dades and stop along the way to see the ‘legs mono’. You’ll have dinner and spend the night in Gorges du Dades.

Day 3 Dades Gorges > Ait Ben Haddou > Ouarzazate > High Atlas > Marrakech

After breakfast, we’ll drive a few minutes and enjoy one of the best views of the Dades Valley. From there we can see the impressive mountains with a few picturesque Kasbah’s.

After several stops to enjoy the route of the Thousand Kasbah’s, Valley of the Roses and Skoura palmery you arrive in Ouarzazate where you can visit the Kasbah of Taourirt, former residence of Glaoui or Pasha of Marrakech, the movie studio’s or the Cine Museum (all optional).

We continue to the UNESCO World Heritage site Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou, an ancient fortified village in typical Moroccan fashion. This spectacular fortified village has been used as film set for more films than any other location in Morocco. After lunch we head back to Marrakech via the Tizi Ntichka pass (2260 m) in the High Atlas. Here we leave the mountain landscape, which give way to the prevailing green and ochre colours. And finally finish in the red city Marrakech. We’ll drop you off at your Riad or the airport.
