12 day tour: Tanger > Fez > Merzouga > Marrakech > Casablanca > Asilah > Tanger
Day 1: Tanger
We will meet you in the airport ‘Ibn Battuta’ in Tanger. We’ll drive you to the hotel where you can relax and start your free program in Tanger. Off course we can give you tips on where to go. If you want we can join you.
Day 2: Tanger > Chefchaouen
After breakfast we’ll pick you upat the hotel and head to Tetouan. Driving through the coastal Jbala region, we’ll visit a few traditional villages along the coast before we arive in Chefchaouen, the blue pearl of Morocco. We’ll guide you through the medina and visit its famous square, markets, river and views over the Riff Mountains. You’ll spend the night in a local hotel in Chefchaouen.
Day 3: Chefchaouen > Volubilis > Meknes > Fez
Today we drive to Fez. Along the way we stop and visit the ancient Roman site ‘Volubilis’ and the historical, imperial city Meknes.
Day 4: Fez
After breakfast we’ll start your tour in imperial Fez with a local guide. We’ll explore the medina of one of the oldest cities in the world, cultural capital and religious center of the western Islamic world and declared UNESCO World Heritage Site. We’ll head through the labitint of narrow streets, enjoy all the spicy aromas, vibrant colours. We’ll visit the royal palace, the tanneries, potters and other craftsmen of typical Moroccan art and products.
We’ll have lunch in a traditional restaurant in the medina. We can visit the Medersas (Koranic schools): Chahrij, Bouinania Attarin. Souks, Fes El-Jedid and the Karaouine Mosque. After the tour we’ll guide you back to your hotel.
Day 5: Fez > Ifrane > Azrou > Midelt > Erfoud > Merzouga > Erg Chebbi
Today you’ll have to get up early, we have a long day ahead to drive to the beautiful Sahara dunes. We’ll drive through the famous Azrou cedar forest, Ifran (Moroccan Zwitserland), the magnificent Middle Atlas Mountains, wide planes. We’ll pass Berber villages and we’ll stop for lunch in Midelt. We’ll continue and stop on a few beautiful panoramic views, like an overview over the flowing Oued Ziz Valley.
Passing Kasbahs, palm groves, Errachidia you’ll arrive in the desert town of Merzouga before sunset. You’ll transfer from car to camel and head in the magnificent Sahara desert. Your caravan will walk to you traditional desert camp where you can enjoy the breath taking sunset.
Our dromedary will be packed with food, water and everything else important for our trip. You’ll spend the night in an equipped camp in the middle of the Sahara desert. This will give you the opportunity to take beautiful pictures of the desert sunset and sunrise from the high Sahara dunes.
It will be a magical night when the sky is clear and you can watch the impressive stars sparkle and shine intensely. During this magical night, we’ll serve you dinner around a campfire, after dinner tea with drum music, and you’ll spend the night in a traditional nomad tent (if you can part with the beautiful stars).
Day 6: Merzouga > Erg chebbi > Merzouga
In the morning we’ll serve breakfast in the camp. After our caravan treks into the desert to visit the two oasis of Merzouga, Berber nomad lands and Khamlia village (village of the blacks). We’ll also visit local Berber nomads and join them for lunch. After a little ‘siesta’ and some rest for the dromedary we trek back to the camp. With sand boards for those who want to try sand boarding, we’ll visit a desert oasis in the Sahara dunes where we stay until sunset. After sunset we’ll go back to camp for dinner.
Day 7: Merzouga > Rissani > Alnif > Todra Gorges > Dades Gorges
After sunrise in the morning we leave the camp and ride the dromedary back to the hotel in Merzouga, where you can take a shower and we offer you a nice breakfast.
We get back on the road and visit the popular souk of Risanni, Alnif and the massive Todra Gorge where you can walk in the stream running through it. We end the day in Dades Gorges where you spend the night in a local riad.
Day 8: Dades Gorges > Ait Ben Haddou > Marrakesh
After breakfast, we’ll drive a few minutes and enjoy one of the best views of the Dades Valley. From there we can see the impressive mountains with a few picturesque Kasbah’s. After several stops to enjoy the route of the Thousand Kasbah’s, Valley of the Roses and Skoura palmery you arrive in Ouarzazate where you can visit the Kasbah of Taourirt, former residence of Glaoui or Pasha of Marrakech, the movie studio’s or the Cine Museum (all optional).
We continue to the UNESCO World Heritage site Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou, an ancient fortified village in typical Moroccan fashion. This spectacular fortified village has been used as film set for more films than any other location in Morocco. After lunch we head back to Marrakech via the Tizi Ntichka pass (2260 m) in the High Atlas. Here we leave the mountain landscape, which give way to the prevailing green and ochre colours. And finally finish in the red city Marrakech. We’ll drop you off at your Riad
Day 9: Marrakesh > Essaouira > Marrakesh
After breakfast we head the road to the tranquil coastal town of Essaouira. We’ll guide you through the old city, visit its famous port and rampart. After a soak of fresh sea breeze we head back to Marrakech. We’ll drop you off at your riad.
Day 10: Marrakech
We headed to the medina with a list of things for you to see. Everything is close to each other, we’ll find you the most effective route. Your options are: Ali Ben Youssef Mosque, Almoravid Koubba, Bab Agnou, Badii palace, Bahia palace, Ben Youssef Medersa, Jemaa El Fna, Jewish quarter, Koutoubia Mosque grounds, Mamounia gardens, Rahba Kedima square, Saadian tombs, Shrob ou shouf fountain, Tanneries. We’ll drop you off at your riad or at a nice restaurant if you prefer.
Day 11: Marrakech > Casablanca > Rabat > Asilah
We’ll leave Marrakech after breakfast and drive to Rabat. We drive via Casablanca and visit the great Hasan II mosque.
From Rabat we drive to the quiet cultural town of Asilah where you’ll spend the last night of the tour.
Day 12: Asilah > Tanger
After breakfast we’ll take the coastal road from Asilah to Tanger. We’ll stop at the grotte D’Hercule and Cap Spartel before we’ll drop you of at your hotel, the ferry or at the airport where we have to say goodbye and hope you’ve had an amazing tour through magical Morocco.
